CalCPA Reaches 45,000 Members
More than 130 Firms Have All CPA Staff Enrolled in Membership
BURLINGAME, Calif., July 16, 2018 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The California Society of CPAs (CalCPA.org) has grown to 45,000 members, Lewis Sharpstone, CalCPA 2018-19 chair, has announced. The milestone cements CalCPA's status as the nation's largest state CPA association.
"We are gratified that so many California certified public accountants, CPA candidates, students and financial professionals have decided that membership in the California Society of CPAs is vital to advancement in their careers," said Sharpstone, speaking on behalf of the society.
"We believe that membership in CalCPA is beneficial both to our members and to the public," he continued. "Through its various programs, CalCPA promotes the highest professional standards, and our members are committed to improving the financial literacy of all Californians."
Sharpstone noted that based on a survey of CalCPA members, they performed more than 1.2 million hours in volunteer services during the past year. These services included participating in or conducting financial literacy programs in communities throughout the state.
CalCPA has several categories of membership, ranging from student to lifetime members, who have been CalCPA members for 40 years. It also offers membership to financial professionals who have never been CPAs.
More than 130 accounting firms in the state have all their CPA staff enrolled in CalCPA.
Among its newest initiatives to serve members is CalCPA Connect. While CalCPA offers numerous in-person professional development opportunities, CalCPA Connect will provide web-based interconnectivity among participating members.
"We envision CalCPA Connect as a way members can easily tap the expertise and knowledge developed through our various committees and sections," Sharpstone said. "Members not only will be able to access best-practice studies and other research through CalCPA Connect, they'll also communicate directly with member experts and colleagues to get their advice."
CalCPA traces its heritage to 1903 when the California State Society of Certified Public Accountants was organized. In 1909, it merged with two other state CPA associations to form the current entity.
CalCPA has 14 chapters throughout California.
