CAIR Director Launches #AleppoChallenge with Vigil Outside Russian Embassy in D.C.
WASHINGTON, Dec. 14, 2016 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Nihad Awad, national executive director of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) today launched #AleppoChallenge with a noon vigil outside the Russian embassy in Washington, D.C.
Awad stood outside the embassy to draw attention to Russia's involvement in the war crimes now taking place against the Syrian civilian population, and particularly against civilians in the city of Aleppo, where Russia's indiscriminate bombing campaign has resulted in the deaths of uncounted men, women and children.

He and CAIR are calling for an immediate cease fire in Aleppo, protection of the civilian population, humanitarian aid deliveries, and war crime charges for all parties proven to target civilians and civilian infrastructure such as hospitals.
The brutal Assad regime, Iranian-backed sectarian militias and Russian forces have repeatedly targeted hospitals and residential neighborhoods in areas held by Syrians seeking freedom and democracy.
