CAHI Appoints J.P. Wieske as Executive Director
Wieske to Head CAHI's Health Reform Efforts
ALEXANDRIA, Va., Sept. 2 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Board of Directors of the Council for Affordable Health Insurance (CAHI) is pleased to announce that J.P. Wieske has been appointed Executive Director for the organization.
On behalf of CAHI's Board of Directors, David Hill, chairman, stated, "J.P.'s leadership, as well as his extensive experience in health insurance and health policy make him an excellent choice to lead CAHI as we meet the current and future challenges of health care reform."
Mr. Wieske joined the Council in 2003 as director of state affairs. In that capacity, J.P. led CAHI's state advocacy efforts, regularly testifying before numerous state legislatures, and has become a requested speaker for industry conferences. He is regularly quoted in trade and mainstream media, and is the co-author of several publications including: "State Legislators Guide to Health Insurance Solutions;" "Health Insurance Mandates in the States;" "Understanding the Uninsured;" and the Pacific Research Institute's "What States Can Do to Reform Health Care: A Free Market Primer."
Mr. Wieske is the former chair of the American Legislative Exchange Council's (ALEC) Health Reform Working Group and the Price Transparency Subgroup, and was named ALEC's 2008 Private Sector Member of the Year.
Prior to joining CAHI, Mr. Wieske was the senior government affairs specialist at American Medical Security in Green Bay, WI. He received his bachelor's degree from Carroll College, specializing in political science and economics.
Mr. Wieske will succeed Dr. Merrill Matthews, who led the association since 2001 and whose contributions enhanced CAHI's standing as a principal advocate for free market solutions in reforming America's health care system.
