CAGP: Greenpeace's Latest Anti-Indonesian Exercise Rubbish
Consumer alliance states report falsely claims business undermining President Yudhoyono's vision for Indonesia; latest report rejected by Indonesian Government
WASHINGTON, Nov. 26, 2010 /PRNewswire/ -- Responding to Greenpeace's latest propaganda out of the Netherlands alleging the agreement between Norway and Indonesia is being used by forestry and agricultural interests to expand the palm oil, pulp and paper industries, the Consumers Alliance for Global Prosperity (CAGP), representing the interests of consumers and the poor around the world, fired back encouraging Indonesians to reject the distortions of Greenpeace and send them packing for the Hague.
"Greenpeace's new report is yet another shameless attempt to stifle economic growth in Southeast Asia. Falsely accusing the pulp, paper and palm oil industries of Indonesia is certainly nothing new from Greenpeace. This latest effort, though, continues to slander these industries by claiming rather brazenly that the one billion dollar forestry deal meant to boost conservation in Indonesia is about to be hijacked by industry," said Andrew Langer, spokesman for CAGP.
The Greenpeace report has already been rejected as false by President Yudhoyono's point person for climate change, Agus Purnomo, whom has said there were a lot of inaccuracies in this latest report. CAGP is not surprised by this development coming just one day after its release – Greenpeace has a history of propagating false information.
Langer continued, "Greenpeace's campaign against the people of Indonesia smells rotten in its attempt to unduly influence the domestic affairs of a developing country. Greenpeace campaigns do not take into account the millions of workers that are impacted negatively by its foreign campaign. CAGP applauds President Yudhoyono for rejecting these latest accusations, which are an affront to the millions of Indonesians looking to build a better life for themselves and their families."
