CAGC Presents Association Excellence in Washington D.C.

CHARLOTTE, N.C., Oct. 5, 2016 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- With 210 Associated General Contractors of America (AGC) chapter representatives from across the nation present in Washington, D.C. on September 26, Carolinas AGC (CAGC) Board of Directors Chair Edison Cassels discussed association excellence in the Carolinas concerning CAGC government relations, meetings, education and training, Young Leaders program, communications and other services.

CAGC was one of three chapters chosen out of 92 chapters from across the nation to present its "Examples in Organizational Innovation" at the AGC of America National and Chapter Leadership Conference 2016. Other CAGC Officers attending also included Marty McKee, Chair-Elect; Paul Mashburn, Treasurer; Ron Brown, Vice Chair; as well as Dave Simpson, CAGC President & CEO. The conference included CAGC leaders spending time on Capitol Hill visiting Congressional leaders from the Carolinas.

Among CAGC successes Cassels presented to the group, some included such CAGC programs and services as:

• Excellent government relations programs in the Carolinas that, with leadership from CAGC's five lobbyists in both states, resulted in overwhelming passage in March 2016 of a $2 billion statewide bond referendum for public building and utility projects, including CAGC raising over $250,000 from the construction industry to help with a $2 million-plus voter education effort; $400 million more beginning this year for new transportation funding in S.C.; and a total of $1.2 billion in additional funding in N.C. in 2016 and 2015.
• Sold-out membership meetings and events, including the upcoming 2017 Annual Convention in St. Thomas, V.I., as well as the 2016 CAGC Construction Industry Summer Hilton Head, S.C., and CAGC Annual Convention in Charleston, S.C.
• Increasing CAGC's Board of Directors in January 2016, following a unanimous membership vote, from nine to 15 members which includes representation from the Building, Highway-Heavy, Utility, Specialty Contractor, and Supplier-Service Divisions and as well as from the CAGC Young Leaders group.
• Heavy emphasis on education, including Safety and Project SuperVision Training, and leadership programs such as the 105-member-strong Young Leaders' Program.
• New labor shortage initiative which Cassels noted, "CAGC is working with other industry groups on a program to showcase the construction industry as a smart move for a well-paying career."
