Cadillac Elmiraj Concept Offers Potential Glimpse into Automaker's Future
Grand coupe concept car takes Chicago luxury car owners by storm

With Cadillac's team of creative designers and its forward-thinking vision for the brand, the Elmiraj concept was developed as a modern interpretation of the two-door grand coupe. The grand coupe concept is based on the lightweight rear-wheel drive performance of the 2014 Cadillac ATS and the soon-to-be-released 2014 Cadillac CTS.
As the second chapter in the development of Cadillac's grand coupe design, the Elmiraj concept car is large and luxurious. At 205 inches, the Elmiraj features a long, prominent hood with a massively spacious interior that sports just four seats. With dramatic proportions, subtle, yet elegant styling, and Cadillac's signature accessories, the Elmiraj concept accentuates the best elements of existing Cadillac models while offering a glimpse into the future of the automaker.
The Elmiraj grand coupe concept is powered by a 500-horsepower V8 that utilizes the technology in the twin-turbo V6 that powers the 2014 CTS-V performance car.
Inside, luxury and performance features are prominent. Elegant touches like rich caramel leather seats and Brazilian Rosewood trim provide an upscale feel while performance features like the analog tachometer and speedometer and the 10-inch touchscreen embody the Art and Science mentality of Cadillac.
The Elmiraj was conceptualized based on one of Cadillac's most legendary vehicles while taking cues from existing models.
"We were influenced in particular by the 1967 Eldorado, both its actual design and the fact that in its time that car was a very stark contrast and a new direction. More recent designs like the CTS-V Coupe and the ELR are provocative," said Clay Dean, the executive director of advanced design. "Both of these cars were major statements of performance and luxury and drove Cadillac forward into new territory."
While the Elmiraj is still in the conceptual phases, Cadillac uses its concept cars for moving vehicles through the design stages rather than teasing future models, so the grand coupe may reach production stages in the coming years.
