FORTH WORTH, Texas, May 5 /PRNewswire/ -- The Cadillac CTS-V has been named the 2010 Car of Texas by the Texas Auto Writers Association after topping the competition this week at the group's Spring Challenge.
The event pitted the newest models in the U.S. market against each other in a series of test drives at Texas Motor Speedway. About 40 auto writers participated in this year's event and voted on their favorite cars in a variety of categories.
The CTS-V earned the highest honor with its selection as "Writers' Choice – The Car of Texas." It was the second time CTS-V received the award. The CTS-V also won the Car of Texas distinction in 2004.
"The Cadillac CTS-V is the car that most epitomizes the state of Texas," said Michael Herzing, president of the Texas Auto Writers Association and publisher of LetsTalkWheels.com. "The CTS-V has power, style, luxury and handling. It has everything."
CTS-V, a high-performance version of the CTS Sedan, has pushed the Cadillac experience to a new level since its introduction in 2004. The most recent model has a 6.2L supercharged V-8 engine rated at 556 horsepower.
The CTS-V features high-performance Brembo brakes, specially designed Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 tires and Magnet Ride Control technology, the world's fastest reacting suspension system. The V-Series will be extended later this year with the CTS-V Sport Wagon and CTS-V Coupe.
Texas car buyers are strong supporters of the Cadillac brand. Last year, Texas accounted for about 11 percent of total Cadillac sales, ranking it behind only California and Michigan. Dallas and Houston ranked 7th and 13th, respectively, among U.S. metro areas in terms of sales volume.
Dallas and Houston car buyers also have shown strong demand for V-Series. The V-Series accounted for 9.5 percent of all CTS Sedan's sold in Houston and 7.6 percent of CTS Sedans sold in Dallas, both higher than the national average of 6.6 percent.
"Cadillac is honored to have the CTS-V chosen as this year's Texas Car of the Year," said Don Butler, U.S. vice president of Cadillac marketing. "Texas is a key market for high-end autos. We're confident the CTS-V delivers the amenities that luxury buyers demand along with the power and agility sought by sports car enthusiasts."
