Strategic partnership to feature Pushkin's top-tier programming, including Malcolm Gladwell's "Revisionist History," Rick Rubin and Gladwell's "Broken Record" and Michael Lewis's "Against the Rules" podcasts
NEW YORK, Dec. 4, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Cadence13, a leading podcast media company, today announced an exclusive partnership with Pushkin Industries, Inc., the new audio company co-founded by Jacob Weisberg, the former chairman and editor-in-chief of the Slate Group and a leader in the world of digital journalism, and Malcolm Gladwell, award-winning writer for The New Yorker and bestselling author.
Beginning January 1, 2019, Cadence13 will exclusively represent Pushkin Industries, whose premium offerings include Gladwell's Revisionist History; Broken Record, hosted by Gladwell and music impresario Rick Rubin; and Against the Rules, a new podcast hosted by bestselling author Michael Lewis. The deal was brokered by WME.
"As Pushkin develops its ambitious lineup of programs for 2019 and beyond, we're relying on Cadence13 and their partners at Entercom for all kinds of support," said Jacob Weisberg, CEO, Pushkin Industries, Inc. "The Cadence13 team understands how much effort goes into making shows that engage, entertain, and inspire people. Malcolm and I are thrilled to be working with them to turn great podcasts into a great business."
"Pushkin is a dynamic addition to the Cadence13 family, and we are thrilled that they've chosen us as their strategic partner," said Spencer Brown, CEO, Cadence13. "We are combining our proven track record with powerful media brands, creators and personalities together with Pushkin's groundbreaking, innovative content. We look forward to working with Jacob Weisberg, Malcolm Gladwell, and their team to grow and expand our businesses as we build the future of the audio media landscape."
"Malcolm Gladwell, Michael Lewis, and Rick Rubin are three of the leading minds of our time— true innovators whose impact and influence shape our culture on a daily basis," said Chris Corcoran, Chief Content Officer, Cadence13. "Their powerful and thought-provoking voices will enhance and strengthen our already robust, diverse roster of premium content."
Cadence13's Pushkin Industries lineup includes:
- Against the Rules: Everywhere you look you find anger that is, at bottom, a complaint about fairness. Michael Lewis's new podcast is about the people who are supposed to prevent unfairness. It starts with basketball referees and then moves, over seven episodes, into the financial system, the legal system, the news business, the art world, and the English language itself. Listeners will meet and get to know different kinds of referees, find out why they do what they do, and explain why they're in trouble. And what that means for the rest of us.
- Broken Record: From Rick Rubin and Malcolm Gladwell, liner notes for the digital age. Digressions, arguments, back-stories, and random things to disagree with about music.
- Revisionist History: Malcolm Gladwell's journey through the overlooked and the misunderstood. Every episode re-examines something from the past—an event, a person, an idea, even a song—and asks whether we got it right the first time. Because sometimes the past deserves a second chance.
Malcolm Gladwell is a National Magazine Award-winning staff writer for The New Yorker. He is the author of five New York Times bestsellers: The Tipping Point, Blink, Outliers, What the Dog Saw, and David and Goliath. He has been named one of the 100 Most Influential People in the World by TIME magazine and one of Foreign Policy magazine's Top 100 Global Thinkers.
Michael Lewis is the New York Times bestselling author of The Undoing Project, Liar's Poker, Flash Boys, Moneyball, The Blind Side, Home Game, and The Big Short, among other works.
Legendary music icon Rick Rubin is a multiple Grammy-award winning producer and the co-founder of Def Jam Records. He has worked with a wide array of top artists, including Aerosmith, Adele, the Beastie Boys, Dixie Chicks, Jay-Z, Johnny Cash, Justin Timberlake, Lady Gaga, Led Zeppelin, Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers, Run DMC and many others. He is widely credited with introducing hip-hop to mainstream audiences.
