Cadence Health's Central DuPage Hospital and Delnor Hospital Named among the 'Best Hospitals' in Chicago and Illinois by U.S. News & World Report
Central DuPage Hospital's Orthopaedic Program Ranked Nationally
WINFIELD, Ill., July 16, 2013 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Cadence Health's Central DuPage Hospital (CDH) and Delnor Hospital have been ranked as two of the Best Hospitals in Chicago and Illinois by U.S. News & World Report. For the fifth time in seven years, CDH's orthopaedic program has been ranked nationally, achieving its highest ranking to date, 22nd in the country. The annual U.S. News Best Hospitals rankings, now in their 24th year, recognize hospitals that excel in treating the most challenging patients.
"To have both Cadence Health hospitals ranked among the best in the region and the state underscores the commitment by the hospitals' physicians, nurses, and staff to deliver high-quality, compassionate care to patients in Chicago's western suburbs," said Mike Vivoda, President and Chief Executive Officer, Cadence Health. "The rankings result from a rigorous analysis of patient outcomes and care processes and we are proud that both CDH and Delnor have achieved this honor."
U.S. News evaluates hospitals in 16 adult specialties. In most specialties, it ranks the nation's top 50 hospitals. For CDH, its orthopaedic program was ranked 22nd in the country. Additionally, U.S. News recognizes other high-performing hospitals by region that provide care at nearly the level of their nationally ranked peers. CDH and Delnor received regional recognition across a variety of specialties, including:
- Central DuPage Hospital – cardiology & heart surgery; diabetes & endocrinology; ear, nose & throat; gastroenterology & GI surgery; geriatrics; gynecology; nephrology; neurology & neurosurgery; pulmonology; and urology.
- Delnor Hospital – geriatrics; nephrology; neurology & neurosurgery; and orthopaedics.
"A hospital that emerges from our analysis as one of the best has much to be proud of," said Avery Comarow, U.S. News Health Rankings Editor. "Only about 15 percent of hospitals are recognized for their high performance as among their region's best. Just 3 percent of all hospitals earn a national ranking in any specialty."
U.S. News publishes Best Hospitals to help guide patients who need a high level of care because they face particularly difficult surgery, a challenging condition, or added risk because of other health problems or age. Objective measures such as patient survival and safety data, the adequacy of nurse staffing levels and other data largely determined the rankings in most specialties.
