CABOT, Vt., Sept. 25, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Cabot Creamery Cooperative, the farm family owned dairy cooperative widely known as the makers of the "World's Best Cheddar," is announcing the winners of yet another round of the Reward Volunteers program. More than 1,200 volunteer activities were logged during August, to the benefit of communities across America. This November, one lucky Reward Volunteers participant will be honored with an all-expense-paid Eastern Caribbean Cruise, as part of the Cabot Community Celebrity Award Cruise.
The Reward Volunteers iPhone App and web widget from Cabot Creamery Cooperative enables individuals and organizations to track the time they spend volunteering in their communities, post to Facebook, and earn rewards for themselves and the organizations they serve. At the end of each month, Cabot rewards volunteers for their hard work, and for inspiring friends and family to do the same, with a variety of prizes. The more hours volunteers log, the more chances to win. Participation is absolutely free, and more information is available at www.rewardvolunteers.coop.
"We've given away hundreds of prizes to Reward Volunteers participants from small towns and big cities throughout the United States since launching the original program back in 2012," says Ed Townley, Chief Operating Officer of Cabot. "The principles our cooperative was founded upon hold volunteering in the highest regard, and Reward Volunteers is the farmers' way of honoring those who give back to their communities. In November, one lucky volunteer will receive the biggest prize we've given away thus far - a seven-night, all-expense-paid cruise to the Caribbean, which will set sail in November of 2015."
The selection process for Rewards Volunteers prizes is random, but the more volunteer hours a user logs and the more they share their volunteer activity with their friends on Facebook, the more chances they have of winning.
The Reward Volunteers cruise winner and a guest will join other volunteers including honorees selected by Points of Light and AARP Create The Good from around the country as part of Cabot's Community Celebrity Award Cruise. The Community Celebrity Award program was created in 2010, and is presented to volunteers from across the country who continue to make a difference in their community. It spotlights those who serve others with little to no thought or regard for personal recognition, and rewards them with the trip of a lifetime. More information is available at www.cabotcelebritycruise.coop.
Reward Volunteers launched in February of 2012. Since then, the program has grown every month, and given away thousands of dollars in cash and prizes to deserving volunteers and volunteer organizations. Reward Volunteers 5.0, the fifth iteration of the revolutionary iPhone app and web widget, has already seen more than 8,800 acts of kindness, generosity, and community support - totaling more than 44,000 hours - logged by individuals in service of non-profit organizations across the country.
One of this month's Reward Volunteers winners is Betty Lewis, a volunteer at Kairos 10 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. "Kairos 10 is a 'Gift that Gives Back' concept. For every piece of jewelry sold a mosquito net goes back to an under developed country. To date, we have distributed over 30,000 mosquito nets. Our distribution includes Ghana, Zimbabwe, Uganda, Kenya, Nigeria, and Sierra Leone. We have participated in providing fresh water wells in Ghana, and the physical building of a medical clinic in Noka that now has nurses and a doctor three days a week. Kairos 10 also participates in medical clinics throughout Ghana providing much needed medicine, eye glasses, clothing, shoes and hope."
Another winner, Alex Randall from German Valley, Illinois, volunteers at Critter Camp Exotic Pet Sanctuary. "I enjoy helping care for the rescued animals at Critter Camp as a volunteer. I like making a difference. The Reward Volunteer program makes it even more fun with the prizes volunteers can win."
