If so, mark your calendar and get ready for Cabot Creamery Cooperative's 'Pedal For Good' ShopRite Store Challenge – a great way to stretch your legs and do good for area food pantries that begins April 26 at the Greater Morristown ShopRite in Cedar Knolls, NJ. The launch of the seven-store "Pedal For Good" Shoprite Store Challenge coincides with ShopRite's Earth Day 2014 celebration at its Cedar Knolls store that features an Earth Day scavenger hunt, reusable shopping bag exchange, Children's Green Bean seed planting class, cooking demonstrations, earth-friendly vendors featuring Eco Kindness cleaning products, Naturally Beautiful Edible Garden hydroponic plants and herbs, organic wine sampling, Sylvania eco-friendly light bulbs, juice bar samples, and the Cabot Human-Powered Blender Bike.
Customers will compete to blend Cabot Greek-Style Vanilla Bean Yogurt Smoothies on the blender bike and rack up as many miles as they can as part of a seven-store challenge to award Cabot Cheese to area food pantries.
"We're inviting ShopRite customers to hop on our human-powered blender bike to make Cabot Smoothies and 'Pedal For Good'," says Cabot Marketing Manager Karen Houchens. "Starting with the Cedar Knolls store, the bike will travel to seven area ShopRite supermarkets where customers will be challenged to rack up as many miles as they can on the blender bike. Cabot will donate 200 pounds of Cheddar Cheese to the winning store's food pantry of choice and the other six stores will each win 50 pounds of Cabot Cheddar for the food pantries of their choice. It's a win-win event for everyone involved and a fun way for ShopRite customers to help provide local food pantries with much-needed dairy products."

"Kicking off the 'Pedal For Good' Store Challenge during ShopRite's Earth Day celebration is a perfect match for Cabot," Houchens added. "As a dairy cooperative owned by 1200 farm families located throughout New England and upstate New York, Cabot is totally focused on sustainability and being eco-friendly. As stewards of their farmlands, our farmers are committed to eco-friendly farming. For example, on several farms, we turn cow waste into electrical energy through our Cow Power program. And we helped develop a pioneering 'Sustainability Metrics' program where we examine all aspects of our farming and plant operations to reduce waste, save energy, minimize usage of fossil fuels, and develop best practices to be as green as possible. It's a daily effort that has resulted in successes both big and small," says Houchens.
"Pedal for Good is a great way to engage customers in ShopRite's commitment to care for the environment and our communities," said William Sumas, Executive Vice President and Vice Chairman of the Board for Village Super Market, Inc. "These events are not only a great way to kick off our Earth Day celebrations but this fun challenge also enables us to help our neighbors in need alongside the dedicated food banks who are on the front lines every day, fighting hunger in the community."
