CA Technologies Unveils Cloud Commons Marketplace and Developer Studio for Building, Selling and Buying Enterprise Class Cloud Solutions
Cloud Commons Offers First 'App Store' Marketplace to Seamlessly Connect Service Providers, Software Vendors and End Users, and Facilitate Cloud Service Selection, Payment and Deployment
LAS VEGAS, Nov. 14, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- CA WORLD -- CA Technologies (NASDAQ: CA) today unveiled new features and functionality to the Cloud Commons® ecosystem including the new Cloud Commons Marketplace that facilitates the buying and selling of cloud services and content, and the Cloud Commons Developer Studio, for planning, building and testing cloud-based software solutions.
The Cloud Commons ecosystem is a thriving community of more than 3,000 members. Current Marketplace cloud solutions span hosted CA AppLogic® grids, Microsoft® based appliances, cloud control panels, virtual desktop and mobile hosting, and other vertical industry applications. Vendors include DNS Europe, ScaleMatrix, Radix Technologies, Acolyst, GigaSpaces Technologies and CorePlus. Customers can also purchase CA Technologies enterprise-class products such as CA ARCserve®, CA Service Desk Manager, and CA Oblicore Guarantee™ software, which have been configured as "cloud appliances" to run on CA AppLogic clouds.
"We've taken significant steps to advance Cloud Commons and make it the singular destination site for anyone using or interested in using cloud solutions," said Adam Famularo, general manager, Enterprise and Cloud Solutions, CA Technologies. "Unlike other cloud service directories, Cloud Commons Marketplace allows users to aggregate cloud solutions and offers a seamless purchase experience between ISVs, service providers and enterprises. It addresses a critical need by helping the end user identify and buy the right cloud solution from the right cloud vendor, hosted by the right cloud service provider."
The Cloud Commons Marketplace
Buyers and sellers of cloud solutions and services use the Cloud Commons Marketplace to compare, procure, manage, and sell ongoing subscription-based cloud solutions, services and content. The Marketplace provides ISVs a new channel distribution opportunity and inbound marketing tool, while service providers can easily add to their service catalog, aggregate richer solutions and reach new customers with more robust offerings. Enterprise IT professionals can use the Marketplace to research and identify optimal services, deployment models and providers, as well as, purchase services seamlessly, all from one online location.
"We have a lot of great services that we want to make quickly and easily available to new customers that may not know about us, or know how to find us," said Mark Ortenzi, CEO of ScaleMatrix. "Unlike other product directory sites, the Cloud Commons Marketplace is a one-stop shop where potential customers can evaluate and buy cloud services, have access to a wealth of knowledge and tap into resources all from a single location. This also gives other managed service providers the ability to buy cloud services to add to their service portfolio, and market and distribute them to our end users—with the transaction happening seamlessly on the backend. We can also manage customer accounts and collaborate with our partners and customers. It's a win-win for us as we accelerate our expansion into the cloud space."
Marketplace capabilities include:
- Software vendors and service providers can submit software-as-a-service (SaaS), platform-as-a-service (PaaS), or infrastructure-as-service (IaaS) solutions and related content for distribution.
- ISVs, service providers, or individual developers can offer their products or integrated solutions as CA AppLogic appliances.
- Service providers can purchase new cloud solutions from ISVs to expand their portfolios.
- Enterprise customers can purchase cloud solutions to use directly in their own private cloud, or opt for a hosted version through a Cloud Commons service provider.
- Ecosystem vendors can take advantage of built-in portfolio management and customer management capabilities.
- Buyers can use the Service Measurement Index to help identify which solutions will best meet their unique needs.
The Cloud Commons Developer Studio
Developers and ISVs can use the Cloud Commons Developer Studio to create cloud ready IT solutions designed for both public and private cloud environments at no cost, using the CA AppLogic platform. It facilitates collaboration and development projects with tools for developers who want to plan, build and test cloud-based software projects.
"Cloud computing represents new territory for many application and service developers, and finding resources to build and test new projects isn't easy," said Nati Shalom, founder and CTO, GigaSpaces. "We're really eager to take advantage of the collaboration tools, free access to test grids and other perks that the Developer Studio offers – so we can speed time-to-market for new IT services in the cloud."
Developer Studio capabilities include:
- Members can collaborate and manage software projects using the Cloud Commons WorkBench based on FusionForge software.
- ISVs and developers can prepare their applications to run in the cloud using the CA AppLogic software developers' kit, and test their applications in the cloud using Cloud Commons' Grid Scheduler.
- These powerful tools help developers and ISVs prepare new cloud services for the open market.
Today's announcement supports customers as they transition from simply managing IT to delivering business services.
