PROVO, Utah, April 22, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- BYUtv, the nationwide High Definition television network of Brigham Young University, today announced the release of a video streaming app for Microsoft's Xbox 360 platform. Following the launch of an Android app in June, BYUtv's Xbox 360 app allows users to move seamlessly between the web, mobile devices and game consoles, while streaming live programming as well as thousands of hours of on-demand video content, including episodes of popular original BYUtv series such as Granite Flats, Studio C and American Ride and a substantial library of BYU football, basketball and other college sports.
"As BYUtv continues to invest in original programming and live sports, our goal is make this content available to our audience on as many devices as possible," said Ryan Holmes, director of digital media at BYUtv. "Over the past several years our digital audience has grown exponentially and we're happy to now offer them the ability to watch BYUtv on Xbox 360, one of the world's leading digital entertainment platforms. With a global install base of over 80 million units, we believe the Xbox 360 platform is very relevant and will allow us to not only connect in a new way with our digital audience, but also introduce new viewers to BYUtv."
The BYUtv app for Xbox 360 includes custom user playlists, video playhead tracking, closed captioning support and TV schedule searching. The app is available as a free download to Xbox Live Gold members in the United States, with more territories to be added in the near future.
Developed in partnership with Seattle-based Ratio, the BYUtv app will support Microsoft Kinect and Microsoft SmartGlass technology, making it easy for users to navigate by voice, gesture, or mobile device.
