BVI Chef Heats up NYC at the Saveur Summer BBQ
NEW YORK, June 29, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- As temperatures in New York City continue to rise, it's not just the summer season heating things up. On Monday, June 27, 15 international chefs descended upon the Big Apple to bring their esteemed barbeque skills to Saveur magazine's Second Annual Summer BBQ, where they heated things up along the Hudson River at Pier 66. Among these talented grill masters was respected British Virgin Islands' Chef Kenneth Molyneaux, Executive Chef at Treasure Isle Hotel and Calamaya Restaurant in Tortola, fresh off his triple Gold medal-winning performance at the Taste of the Caribbean 2011 culinary competition.
"Chef Ken is among our finest ambassadors from the BVI, and his mouth-watering creations are just a sampling of what our many award-winning chefs have to offer in the destination," said Ms. Perla George General Manager of North America for the BVI Tourist Board.
"I couldn't be more proud to represent the British Virgin Islands at this event. I'm excited to be in New York City, with its wonderful food writers and connoisseurs, and happy that I am able to share the delicious flavors of the BVI with such a fun audience," said Chef Ken, who is a graduate of the New England Culinary Institute and Captain of the award-winning British Virgin Islands Culinary Team. The chef brought a taste of the islands to New York with his Herbal Scotch Bonnet Marinated Chicken recipe, accompanied by a plantain and potato island-style risotto with spiced mango puree. The mix of sweet, savory and spicy flavors in Chef Ken's offerings perfectly represented BVI cuisine, where dishes are fresh and vibrant, and often grilled, as they were Monday at the Summer BBQ. From freshly caught lobsters grilled right on the beach to intricate meals served in a fine-dining setting, the BVI has a plethora of first-class dining options across its 60 islands.
The BVI made a splash in the States twice this week, between the inclusion of Chef Ken's grilled delights at Saveur's Second Annual Summer BBQ and the BVI Culinary Team's victory at the Taste of the Caribbean competition in Miami, Florida, where Chef Ken was honored a Chef of the Year Gold Award and the team was awarded a Gold Medal in contemporary culinary arts. These recent accomplishments were no surprise to foodies in the know, because the BVI is not only a pristine island destination, but also the Caribbean's top spot for fine dining.
For BBQ fans who couldn't attend the event in New York or those hankering for Caribbean flavors, Saveur will be publishing Chef Kenneth Molyneaux's delectable grilled recipes on their website, allowing readers to grill like a pro and get a taste of the islands right at home.
