Analyst Update: Philanthropic Activities, Dividends, Lawsuit Update, and Asset sales

U.S. stocks mostly closed lower on Tuesday amid a mixed bag of earnings reports. The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 0.47% to 17949.59, and the S&P 500 ended the session 0.15% lower at 2097.31. On a positive note, the NASDAQ gained 0.39% to close at 5014.10, mainly supported by big gains in biotechnology stocks amid strong M&A activities. European stocks continued their strong run on Tuesday. Major European markets closed the session higher, as Germany's DAX jumped 0.4%; Britain's FTSE 100 rose 0.15%, and France's CAC gained 0.10%. Meanwhile, Asian markets surged on Tuesday, recovering from their disappointing session on the previous day. The Shanghai Composite, Japan's Nikkei and Hong Kong's Hang Seng all posted positive gains.
On April 17, 2015, Exxon Mobil announced that the Company and its employees are donating over $1.4 million to higher education institutions across California as part of the ExxonMobil Foundation's 2014 Educational Matching Gift Program.
As per a report by Bloomberg dated April 17, 2015, Seadrill Ltd. along with North Atlantic Drilling Ltd. and Roseneft Oil Co. have mutually agreed to extend the termination date of the Framework Agreement, signed back on August 22, 2014, until May 31, 2017.
On April 1, 2015, SandRidge Energy Inc., the oil and natural gas Company with its principal focus on exploration and production, announced that its Board of Directors has declared a $3.50 per share semi-annual dividend on its shares of 7.0% Convertible Perpetual Preferred Stock, payable in shares of Company Common Stock on May 15, 2015, to holders of record as on May 1, 2015.
For an update on the lawsuit concerning Chesapeake Energy Corporation (Chesapeake) we turn to a Bloomberg report, dated April 14, 2015, which states that, Aubrey K. McClendon and American
Energy Partners, LP (AELP) responded to the announcement by American Energy - Utica, LLC (AEU) and The Energy & Minerals Group that Chesapeake has dismissed AEU and the John Doe Defendants 1-20 from the lawsuit filed by the Company on February 17, 2015.
On April 7, 2015, Halliburton Co. announced that it will separately market for sale the company's Fixed Cutter and Roller Cone Drill Bits, Directional Drilling and Logging-While-Drilling (LWD)/Measurement-While-Drilling (MWD) businesses.
