Bush Library, Bryan-College Station Community Celebrate Juneteenth
COLLEGE STATION, Texas, June 3, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The George Bush Presidential Library and Museum joins the Bryan-College Station community in celebrating Juneteenth with the annual Freedom Walk and a historical storytelling program June 19 at the George Bush Presidential Library Center at Texas A&M University.
The 12th annual Juneteenth Celebration begins at 9 a.m. with the Freedom Walk, open to all members of the community age 6 and up. The walk starts at the City of College Station - Lincoln Recreation Center at 1000 Eleanor Street, College Station, Texas 77840, and travels about two miles to the Bush Library and Museum.
From 10:30-11:30 a.m. the Bush Library and Museum presents a free educational storytelling program "Upholding Freedom's Legacy" performed by Clifton Fifer at the Annenberg Presidential Conference Center. Fifer will present historical stories about the Buffalo Soldiers and Scouts, the Black Mountain Men, his original music, and a dance called the Buffalo Scout Stomp. He will highlight the important role of the chaplain who served with the Buffalo Soldier troops.
"The Freedom Walk and storytelling program are a great way for the community to be involved in learning why we celebrate Juneteenth and why it is important to value freedom's opportunities through education," said Bush Library and Museum Director of Education Dr. Shirley Hammond.
