Bus Accident Lawyers work with Accident Experts to Determine Cause of Megabus Tragedy
Bus Accident Lawyers Hire Accident Reconstruction Experts to Begin Investigation of Tragic Megabus Crash Scene
HOUSTON, Aug. 9, 2012 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- On August 2, 2012, a fully-loaded double-decker Megabus crashed on an Illinois highway while traveling between Chicago and Kansas City. According to Illinois State Police, a young female passenger seated on the bus's upper deck was killed and another 48 passengers were injured. The investigation is currently ongoing, but authorities have stated that a blown tire was likely the cause of this tragic accident.

"While the passengers and their families focus on recovering from their physical and emotional injuries, our bus crash lawyers are actively working with experts and investigators across the country to determine the cause of the Megabus crash, if and how it could have been prevented, and the measures that need to be taken to ensure that catastrophes like this do not happen again. Any evidence discovered through the investigation will be thoroughly examined to determine whether Megabus could have prevented the tragic collision through proper vehicle maintenance and compliance with state and federal motor carrier safety regulations," says Ryan Zehl, a bus accident lawyer at Fitts Zehl in Houston.
Less than one week after the tragic Litchfield crash, a Megabus struck and fatally injured Donna Halstead in Chicago, Illinois, while she was attempting to cross the street. The driver was ticketed for failing to yield the right-of-way to a pedestrian. The very next day, Megabus was forced to conduct an emergency bus evacuation on Interstate 85 near Parkertown Mill, Georgia, after another one of its double-decker buses caught fire with over 80 passengers onboard. While the cause of the fire is still under investigation, reports are stating that a blown tire on the bus may have contributed to the collision.
"The fact that Megabus was responsible for another fatality and had to evacuate a bus full of passengers due to a bus fire less than one week after the Litchfield crash suggests, to me, that the company is not only violating federal and state safety laws, but—even worse—jeopardizing the safety of their passengers by failing to properly inspect and maintain their buses," says Mr. Zehl.
