BOSTON, Sept. 6, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Burns & Levinson announced today that partner Josef Volman has been named to the "Mergers & Acquisitions and Antitrust Trailblazers" list by The National Law Journal (NLJ). According to the NLJ, each of the attorneys recognized have "shown a deep passion and perseverance in pursuit of their mission, having achieved remarkable successes along the way."
As co-chair of Burns & Levinson's Business Law group, Volman has built a reputation as an M&A deal maker in the business community. His practice focuses on the representation of entrepreneurs and investors, startup and emerging companies, and PE/VC funds through all phases of the investment and exit process on both the sell and buy sides of M&A transactions. He has deep experience in the technology, life sciences, media and entertainment, sports and hospitality industries – and is known for his creative, results-focused work guiding clients through public offerings, securities compliance, buying/selling private/public companies, venture financings, and early- and late-stage private/public equity and debt financings. Volman also utilizes his vast network in the middle-market to add value to all of his work.
The NLJ noted Volman's work with high-profile sports clients like Sportvision, the creator of the "1st and Ten" line for football games on television. Volman helped Sportvision "get financed and make the rights deals with leagues and networks" after the company was spun out of Fox. The NLJ also highlighted Volman's "innovative deal where the Seattle Mariners bought and recently sold a majority interest in Modesto Nuts" (Volman's client), which was "one of the first times a major league baseball team became a majority owner of a minor league team."
Volman has also closed a significant number of M&A deals involving private equity funds. Looking ahead, Volman told the NLJ that private equity is changing the way M&A transactions are getting done. "Private equity funds are now starting to bid higher than strategic buyers at times, and that has changed the landscape for buyers and sellers."
Volman has been listed in The Best Lawyers in America since 2013. He received his J.D. from the University of Connecticut School of Law and his B.A. from Tufts University.
"Joe has spent years building an outstanding reputation with not only his clients, but with his industry peers," said David Rosenblatt, managing partner at Burns & Levinson. "This is a well-deserved honor and we're proud to see Joe recognized as a leader in the M&A community."
