PROVIDENCE, R.I., June 19, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Burns & Levinson announced today that George Chaclas has joined the firm as a partner in its Intellectual Property (IP) Group. Chaclas, who has over 19 years of experience developing IP strategy for Fortune 100 and industry-leading companies, world-renowned academic institutions, startups, and entrepreneurs, was previously with Adler Pollock & Sheehan in Providence, RI. Also joining the firm from Adler Pollock are associate Daniel McGrath and patent agent Katherine Larson.
Chaclas helps clients acquire and use IP assets to accomplish strategic goals, and has prepared and prosecuted well over 500 patents for a wide range of technologies including nanotechnology, semiconductors, bioinformatics, telecommunications, medical devices, fluidics, RADAR, fuel cells, aerospace, and quantum computing, among others. Chaclas has won more than 50 appeals for pending applications in the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, and is experienced in handling inter partes reviews at the PTAB. Prior to becoming a lawyer, he was an electrical engineer and worked in the semiconductor industry for 12 years at GCA Corporation and Silicon Valley Group Lithography Systems. Chaclas received his J.D. from the University of Connecticut School of Law in 1999 and his B.S. from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst in 1987.
"We are very excited to have George, Dan and Katherine join our growing intellectual property practice. Last month, we added three high profile life science partners from Mintz Levin to our IP group, and these three new hires reflect our continued search for top-notch talent to expand our world-class team," said David P. Rosenblatt, managing partner at Burns & Levinson. "Demand for our results-oriented and value-driven IP services is soaring across our entire client base from startups and emerging businesses to Fortune 500 companies, and George's deep patent expertise will be invaluable to our clients and colleagues."
McGrath worked as a civil engineer at the Massachusetts Water Resources Authority for two years before law school, and was a paralegal/patent agent for three years at Adler Pollock before becoming an associate at the firm. He received his J.D., summa cum laude, with an intellectual property concentration, from Suffolk University Law School in 2016 and his B.S., cum laude, in civil engineering from the University of Massachusetts, Lowell in 2011.
Larson became a certified patent agent in November 2016. She received her DPhil degree in biomedical engineering from Brown University in 2017 and her B.S. in biomedical engineering and biology from Worcester Polytechnic Institute in 2012.
