BOSTON, April 18, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Burns & Levinson announced today that partners Gil Breiman and Stephen Brook have been named the co-chairs of the firm's Venture Capital and Emerging Companies group. Breiman and Brook will share responsibility for overseeing the practice group, which advises venture capital funds and angel investors on their investments in portfolio companies, and guides startups through the complexities of venture capital financings and the day-to-day challenges of growing their businesses. With deep experience on both sides of financing transactions, the group often cultivates business relationships between the firm's venture capital fund clients, angel investors and the startups and emerging growth companies it represents.
"For our emerging growth and startup clients, our singular goal is to help them succeed through all phases of their life cycle from incorporation, seed and venture capital financing, and intellectual property protection to employment matters, strategic relationships, business combinations, and mergers, acquisitions and initial public offerings," said Breiman. "We also support our VC clients over the long haul, from initial investment through portfolio company management through successful exit."
"Our group stands out for the added value we bring to every transaction," added Brook. "We have long-standing relationships with venture capitalists, angel investors and family offices, and we regularly introduce our startup and emerging clients to our extensive network of financing sources. Clients seek us out because we bring tremendous and deep expertise and resources to every project we handle."
Breiman brings 18 years of experience to his new role. He has represented foreign and domestic corporations, investors, boards of directors and individuals in various corporate and business matters, advising on equity and debt financing and related securities compliance, venture capital, mergers and acquisitions, startup ventures and entity formation, business strategy, joint ventures, and strategic alliances. He received both his J.D., cum laude and his M.B.A., high honors, Beta Gamma Sigma, from Suffolk University in 1999 and his B.A. from Tel Aviv University in 1993.
Brook has over 19 years of experience with corporate and transactional matters, including venture financings, PIPEs and public and private offerings of equity and debt securities, mergers, acquisitions, and sales. He also represents private equity and venture capital firms, investment banks and family offices. He received his J.D. from DePaul University, College of Law in 1998 (spending his final year of law school at Northwestern University School of Law) and his B.A. from Syracuse University in 1993.
"We are excited to have Gil and Steve take on these important new roles and continue the growth of this practice group," said Josef Volman, co-chair of the firm's Business Law group at Burns & Levinson. "Their depth and breadth of expertise and their work with some very high profile emerging companies and venture funds make them ideal candidates to lead this group."
