BURNCO Acquires Gateway Concrete of Texas
CALGARY/FORT WORTH, Sept. 4, 2013 /PRNewswire/ - BURNCO Rock Products Ltd, Canada's largest independent concrete producer, has acquired the business assets of Gateway Concrete of Texas. This is BURNCO's first acquisition of an American company and is in alignment with its overall growth agenda.
"We are excited about becoming a bi-national company," says Scott Burns, CEO of BURNCO and great-grandson of the 101-year-old company's founder. "We are very pleased to be conducting business in the United States."
Michael Powell, President of BURNCO, says the company had been looking at Texas for some time but narrowed their focus down to Gateway. "We were highly impressed with the growth vector they were on."
Founded in 2005, Gateway Concrete is a ready-mix concrete supplier for home builders and commercial contractors serving the Dallas-Fort Worth area.
Dale Jordan, a former Gateway owner who will continue in the business as Sales Manager, asserts "This is another step forward for Gateway. I look forward to working with BURNCO to help them grow in the U.S. The way they do things and the way we do things are very similar. It is a great fit." All Gateway employees have been offered employment with BURNCO Texas LLC and are expected to stay on. In the near term, the company will continue to operate under the name Gateway Concrete.
Although the oversight of operations will be in Canada, Michael Powell states that the company will remain Texan through and through. "This is a Texas organization, run by Texans and supplying Texans," he says.
BURNCO Rock Products Ltd is a fourth generation family business established in Calgary in 1912 by James F. Burns. Today, the company, comprised of more than 1,100 employees, is the largest independent supplier of ready-mix concrete in Canada, a major supplier of asphalt and aggregate products, and operates Western Canada's largest network of landscape centres.
