Burlington Coat Factory Completes Another Record Year of Supporting The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society in its Quest to Beat Cancer
WHITE PLAINS, N.Y., Nov. 26, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Burlington Coat Factory continues to break records each year, having raised close to $3.4 million this fall through its company-wide initiative encouraging its customers to purchase paper balloon icons as a donation to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) to help fund cancer research and patient services.
With this unprecedented effort, Burlington Coat Factory, LLS's #1 national corporate Light The Night® Walk partner, has now raised more than $16 million to support LLS initiatives during the 11 years it has been supporting this campaign.
"The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society is extremely grateful to Burlington Coat Factory, its employees and customers, who are helping to make a difference in the lives of so many patients and their families through this initiative," said John Walter, LLS president and CEO. "It is thanks to the generosity of partners such as Burlington Coat Factory that LLS continues to be able to help advance blood cancer therapies and quality of life improvements for blood cancer patients."
Burlington Coat Factory's campaign ran from July through the end of October at all its stores located in 44 states and Puerto Rico.
In addition to the balloon icon program, Burlington Coat Factory associates participated in Light The Night Walks throughout the country. Light The Night Walk is LLS's evening walk campaign held in communities across the country each fall to honor and commemorate lives touched by cancer and raise funds to support blood cancer research and help patients and their families.
"A strong commitment to community has long been a part of Burlington Coat Factory's heritage. Thanks to the generosity of our customers and the dedication of our associates, we are delighted to have been able to make such a significant contribution to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society," said Thomas Kingsbury, president and chief executive officer. "From in-store sales of our iconic paper balloons to nationwide employee participation in Light the Night Walks, we are honored to help make a difference in the lives of those affected by blood cancers."
