MIDLAND, Texas, June 25, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Burleson LLP, a full-service law firm devoted primarily to the oil and gas industry, will host a new seminar in its ongoing educational series on July 10 titled, "Preserving Multi-Generation Oil and Gas Wealth under the New 'Death Tax' Paradigm."
The complimentary event, which will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Petroleum Club of Midland at 501 West Wall Street, will highlight critical topics on the recent paradigm shift in estate tax portability and related factors influencing the financial future of businesses and families. It will be led by Matthew Brysacz, a Texas-based Partner of Burleson, along with Forrest Green, a Principal of Bernstein Global Wealth Management.
Brysacz said the seminar will shed light on the significant impact the American Taxpayer Relief Act (ATRA) has had on the landscape of estate planning and the factors individuals should consider to protect oil and gas wealth.
"Although certain areas of tax law have been simplified with ATRA, a number of aspects have grown increasingly complex for estate planning," Brysacz explained. "Anyone with plans to pass down money and assets to the next generation should understand how these laws will influence their current strategy. This event will address that and deliver practical solutions for preserving wealth in today's estate planning environment."
Specific topics to be covered include:
- The need for comprehensive estate tax planning in light of the $5.34 million (and growing) estate tax exemption and laws governing spousal portability
- Determining when you have enough to support your lifestyle and begin passing wealth down to the next generation
- Strategies to increase value for beneficiaries while supporting your current lifestyle and reducing estate taxes
- The value of trusts and family limited partnerships as tools in estate planning
Brysacz focuses his practice on estate tax, estate planning, probate, and trust matters. He represents a number of large landowners in the Eagle Ford region, preserving wealth through strategies aimed at asset protection and estate tax reduction. He also focuses on representing closely held, family-owned businesses in corporate matters, real estate and estate planning transactions, and succession planning.
The Midland event is part of Burleson's Trends, Terms, and Lessons Learned educational series, which is designed to encourage open discussions on significant issues impacting the energy industry and other sectors served by the firm.
Individuals interested in attending can register by emailing [email protected] or calling 432.253.8605.
