DENVER, Nov. 17, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Burleson LLP announced a major strengthening of its presence in the Rockies as Adam Veltri, who headed Steptoe & Johnson's oil and gas practice in Denver, has joined the firm and will serve as partner in charge of the Denver office.
Burleson also grabbed a second highly experienced energy lawyer from Steptoe, John Chadd, who will join as partner. Chadd will focus on corporate finance and manage the Denver oil and gas title practice.
Veltri has more than 25 years of experience in commercial transactions and corporate finance, and concentrates his practice on the oil and gas industry. He has advised a variety of oil and gas companies and investment firms on issues related to acquisitions, divestitures, financings, and operations. He has also held senior management positions with two E&P companies, focusing on oil and gas title examination, joint ventures, exploration and development agreements, joint operating agreements, participation agreements, and credit agreements.
Chadd's experience spans more than a decade and includes energy finance, mergers and acquisitions, oil and gas operations, oil and gas title examination, and due diligence. He has represented lenders and borrowers in senior and mezzanine credit facilities secured by oil and gas properties, advised start-ups, and worked closely with operators on day-to-day matters including acquisitions, divestitures, leasing, farmouts, and a variety of oilfield contracts.
"This represents a major step for us at every level," said Rick Burleson, managing partner of the Houston-based energy law firm. "Obviously, it adds to our depth and capabilities in Denver and broadens our footprint throughout the Rocky Mountain region. At the same time, it further demonstrates our commitment to serving energy companies with a team of skilled energy lawyers who have the breadth of experience to handle just about any issue, for any client, anyplace in the Rockies."
Veltri agreed. "One of the things that most attracted me to Burleson was its vision for growth," he explained. "This is a firm that knows where it's going and how to get there, and gives its attorneys the opportunity to put their experience to work on behalf of a wide range of clients. We're building something big in Denver, and I'm glad to be a part of it."
"Burleson appealed to me in a lot of ways," Chadd added, "but one of the biggest draws was the chance to build my practice in a true growth environment. Burleson has the resources and flexibility needed to take my practice to the next level."
At Steptoe, Veltri built the firm's Rockies oil and gas practice, developed client relationships, and led the representation on a variety of major transactions. Prior to that, he spent 15 years with major New York City law firms handling high-profile clients, such as JPMorgan Chase, Citibank, Merrill Lynch, and Lehman Brothers, as they undertook complex M&A and finance transactions.
Veltri earned his undergraduate degree from the State University of New York at Albany (summa cum laude) and his law degree from the University of Pennsylvania.
Chadd earned his undergraduate degree from Middlebury College and his law degree from Northwestern University.
