PITTSBURGH, Sept. 5, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Two attorneys from Burleson LLP's Pittsburgh location – Kerri Coriston, senior counsel, and Grant Hackley, senior associate – will make presentations at the Pennsylvania Bar Institute's 6th Annual Oil and Gas Law Colloquium. The event, which will cover a wide range of legal topics related to shale energy, will be held on Sept. 9 and 10 at the Penn State Convention Center Hotel in State College, Pa.
Hackley will participate in a panel discussion on drafting title opinions on Tuesday, Sept. 9, at 2:20 p.m. The session will cover a number of aspects related to surface and subsurface estates, including title instruments, preparation, and certified title opinions. It will also address common title issues specific to the Marcellus and Utica shale plays.
Coriston's presentation is titled Employment in the Oil and Gas Industry: Challenging Issues for Atypical Work Arrangements and will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 10, at 2:20 p.m. The discussion will focus on the feasibility of work arrangements with consultants, independent contractors, and agency workers, and will shed light on important factors to consider in such relationships, including overtime, exemptions, and the Fair Labor Standards Act.
Coriston is a member of the firm's Litigation and Energy Practice Groups. She litigates disputes involving a wide range of issues related to employment law, breach of contract, oil and gas rights, joint operating agreements, partnership dissolution, and torts. Her background also includes rendering opinions regarding mineral rights and land title.
Hackley routinely analyzes and interprets title instruments involving oil and gas interests in the Appalachian region. He is well versed in rendering original title opinions and is experienced in a number of other concerns, including product liability, insurance bad faith, and general negligence, impacting companies both in and out of the energy sector.
