HOUSTON, Sept. 25, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Brandon Durrett, an associate in the San Antonio location of Burleson LLP, will present A Primer on Oil and Gas Regulation in Texas: Spacing and Density at the Houston Association of Professional Landmen's Annual Fall Saturday Seminar on Sept. 27.
Durrett's presentation will cover several topics, including:
- Application and enforcement of lease-line and between-well spacing under state and special field rules;
- Essentials of density and proration rules and their effect on well unit formation and common lease clauses; and
- Emerging issues in the regulation of horizontal development, including trends impacting stacked and multilateral wells, "no perf" zones, allocation wells, and production agreements.
"Although each producing region of Texas has its own unique regulatory requirements and concerns, there are a number of universal factors involving all aspects of exploration, operations, and production that landmen should understand," explained Durrett. "This presentation will provide an overview of some of those essential concepts and bring awareness of key issues to energy companies to help them stay in compliance."
Durrett maintains a diverse oil and gas practice with a focus on upstream transactional and regulatory work. He also handles a wide range of issues concerning the exploration, development, operation, sale, and leveraging of oil and gas properties.
Durrett represents clients before the Railroad Commission of Texas in a variety of regulatory matters and has a broad base of experience in all phases of the acquisition and divestiture of oil and gas assets. He negotiates and conducts upstream transactions involving leasing, pooling, joint development agreements, farmouts, operating agreements, seismic options, surface use agreements, and customized instruments to fit his clients' needs.
With licenses to practice in Texas and New Mexico, Durrett has extensive experience examining oil and gas titles and routinely advises clients on lease acquisition and maintenance matters before the General Land Office of Texas, the U.S. Bureau of Land Management, and the New Mexico State Land Office.
