TORONTO, June 28, 2018 /PRNewswire/ - Tony Arrell, Chairman and CEO, and Richard Rooney, President & Chief Investment Officer, are pleased to announce the appointment of Anne Mette de Place Filippini as Deputy Chief Investment Officer effective July 1, 2018. Ms. de Place Filippini will succeed to the position of Chief Investment Officer of Burgundy on July 1, 2020. Richard Rooney, Burgundy's long serving CIO, will remain with the firm as President and Director after that date.
This appointment follows a lengthy period of consultation and planning in Burgundy's Investment Department. Ms. de Place Filippini plans to remain as head of Burgundy's Emerging Markets effort both during the transitional period and during her tenure as CIO. In fact, part of the transition plan will see Anne Mette and members of her team undertake an extensive 'on the ground' research assignment in China during the next year. This research project in one of the world's largest and most dynamic economies will serve Anne Mette well in both her management of Burgundy's Emerging Markets effort and evolving Deputy CIO duties.
"Anne Mette has distinguished herself as Portfolio Manager, research team leader and Director of Burgundy over her 10 years with the firm," said Richard Rooney. "When her candidacy for the position was put forward, there was immediate and unanimous agreement that she was the right choice. Anne Mette and I have worked closely together on our Emerging Markets effort and I look forward to our partnership on the CIO transition."
"I am honoured to assume a leadership position with such a superb group of investment professionals," said Ms. de Place Filippini. "Their support and confidence mean a great deal to me. I look forward to working with Richard on the transition, and to carrying forward our tradition of research excellence."
"This is a key development in Burgundy's succession plan. We intend to remain an independent global leader in the quality value investing profession," said Tony Arrell. "Anne Mette has a deep understanding of Burgundy's values and will be a worthy successor to Richard."
