Bureau Of Justice Assistance Offers Naloxone Toolkit For Law Enforcement
******MEDIA ADVISORY******
WASHINGTON, Oct. 27, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Office of Justice Programs' Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA) has posted a new online Law Enforcement Naloxone Toolkit. The Law Enforcement Naloxone Toolkit is a clearinghouse designed to provide law enforcement agencies with important information about naloxone, a potentially lifesaving drug known for effectively restoring breathing to a victim in the midst of a heroin or other opioid overdose.
Drug overdose claims over 100 American lives daily according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Since law enforcement officers are often first on an overdose scene, this Toolkit will give officers the support they need to prepare for these medical emergencies safely and effectively.
"I'm pleased that as we launch the toolkit we are able to offer over 80 resources from 30 contributing law enforcement and public health agencies. We will continue to update the toolkit in response to the needs of the field," said BJA Director Denise E. O'Donnell.
Included in the toolkit is a variety of resources, including data collection forms, standard operating procedures, training guides, community outreach materials, and memoranda of agreement – all of which can be downloaded by agencies and customized for their own organization.
