Bunker Hill Community College to Host S. Pellegrino Almost Famous Chef New England Competition
BOSTON, Jan. 13, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Bunker Hill Community College will host the Almost Famous Chef New England competition on January 27, 2011. Sponsored by S. Pellegrino Sparkling Natural Mineral Water, the Almost Famous Chef competition is now in its 9th year. The Competition serves as a platform for culinary schools to showcase their students' culinary expertise for a panel of distinguished chefs from the Boston area. The Almost Famous Chef Competition is the most prestigious culinary event for students attending culinary schools around the world.
The local Boston-area judges for the event will be: Mary Dumont, Executive Chef at Harvest, Todd Winer, Executive Chef at Met Club Back Bay, Jason Santos, Chef at Gargoyles and Chris Douglass, Chef at Ashmont Grill and Tavolo.
Eight student participants will take part in this regional competition, which will be held from 6-8 p.m. in the College's Culinary Arts Dining Room and the Kitchen Arts Laboratories. The other colleges represented at the event include Johnson & Wales University, the New England Culinary Institute, and the Cambridge School of Culinary Arts. The two students from BHCC, Patricia Whalen and Elizabeth Agneta, have been mentored by Professor George Kelley in BHCC's Culinary Arts Program.
Ten regional winners will be flown to the finals event taking place from March 11-14, 2011 at the Culinary Institute of America at Greystone in Napa Valley, California. At this national event, students will have the opportunity to compete in front of a panel of culinary media, and renowned chefs. The winner will take the title, up to $20,000 in prizes and a paid apprenticeship from one of the participating chef judges.
