Bunker Hill Community College Service Award Goes to Business Leader Stephen Weiner

BOSTON, May 17, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Boston business leader Stephen Weiner will receive the President's Distinguished Service Award at Bunker Hill Community College's 37th Commencement exercises on Saturday, June 4, 2011, College President Mary L. Fifield announced this week. The award is presented to an individual who demonstrates extraordinary and continuing commitment to Bunker Hill Community College. Weiner has served as a member of the Bunker Hill Community College Foundation for a decade, and assumed the presidency of the Foundation Board this year. He is president of the Boston-based Weiner Company, a major commercial insurance broker.

Weiner has given not only time and energy to the College, but also resources. His company was a major donor to the College's Capital Campaign for the Health and Wellness Center, a 48,000-square-foot, award-winning "green" building, dedicated last year. Widely respected in Boston's business community, Weiner's financial background is a valuable asset for the important work of the Foundation.

A champion for education, Weiner served from 1985 to 1992 on the Board of Trustees of the Meadowbrook School in Weston, Massachusetts. Weiner holds a bachelor's degree in Russian Studies from the University of Pennsylvania, a master's degree in English from Georgetown University, and a master's in Business Administration from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.

Bunker Hill Community College is the largest community college in Massachusetts. The College enrolls more than 12,600 students on two campuses and at four satellite locations. BHCC is one of the most diverse institutions of higher education in Massachusetts. Six in ten students are people of color and more than half of BHCC's students are women.
