Bunker Hill Community College: One of Fastest Growing Two-year Colleges
BOSTON, Feb. 12 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Bunker Hill Community College ranks among the "top 50" fastest growing two-year colleges, according to Community College Week, the leading publication covering two-year institutions of higher education.
From Fall 2000 to the current semester – Spring 2010 – the College's enrollment grew from 6,386 to more than 11,500, an increase of 80 percent.
BHCC has taken a number of measures to meet the demands of its enrollment growth, including: hiring new faculty, increasing the number of tutors available to students, expanding academic support services, and purchasing a new bus to shuttle students between its Charlestown and Chelsea campuses.
The College has adopted other strategies for meeting the needs of more students. Last Fall, BHCC offered two midnight classes. This semester, the College has both increased the number of midnight classes and added late-night courses.
Bunker Hill Community College is the largest community college in Massachusetts. The College enrolls more than 11,500 students on two campuses and at five satellite locations. BHCC is one of the most diverse institutions of higher education in Massachusetts. Six in ten students are people of color and more than half of BHCC's students are women. The College also enrolls more than 690 international students who come from more than 95 countries and speak 75 different languages.
