Bunker Hill Community College Graduate Wins Leadership Award
BOSTON, May 5, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Belkys Angeles, a 2009 graduate of Bunker Hill Community College, has won the Leadership Success Award from One Family, Inc., a Boston organization dedicated to ending family homelessness in Massachusetts. Angeles received the award at One Family's "Mothers of Inspiration" gala on April 26, 2011. One Family, Inc. recognized Angeles as a leader "within her family, her university and her community."
Angeles graduated from Bunker Hill Community College in 2009 with a 3.5 grade point average. "Belkys Angeles is a true leader and is an inspiration for others pursuing their personal, academic and professional journey to completion and success," said Margaret Bovill-Hawkins, Director of BHCC's Student Success Program, which connected Angeles with One Family Inc., and the One Family Scholar Program. The BHCC alumna received training in college success, career success, financial success, and leadership success through the program. At the College, she majored in Hotel and Restaurant Management and is now studying Spanish at the University of Massachusetts Boston.
The Student Success Program provides comprehensive services for students coping with a range of challenges including significant financial need. The BHCC Success Program currently serves 230 students and is funded by a federal TRIO grant. TRIO funds educational opportunity programs that motivate and support students from disadvantaged backgrounds.
