Building Trades Applaud New York Leadership for Agreement on 421-a Program
WASHINGTON, June 24, 2015 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The following statement was released today by North America's Building Trades Unions in reaction to the agreement reached on the framework for a reformed 421-a program that ensures the payment of prevailing wages for New York City's construction workforce:
"North America's Building Trades Unions are pleased that New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, State Senate Majority Leader John Flanagan and State Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie were able to transcend politics and craft together a workable and reformed proposal for the 421-a program in New York City that will pave the way for the payment of prevailing wages for real estate development projects that receive tax exemptions under the program."
"The actions taken by these state leaders to find common ground that creates a framework to finding a solution to balance the interests of developers with the payment of middle class wages and benefits for working families in New York City is a compelling example of how varied interests can successfully find common ground to address serious issues such as income inequality."
