Building Homes, Rebuilding Lives: Homes For Our Troops Provides Veterans with Specially Adapted Custom Homes
Lockheed Martin Donation Supports Nonprofit's Mission to Provide Adapted Homes to Veterans and Their Families
WASHINGTON, Oct. 12, 2017 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- With shared goals of ensuring Veterans make a successful transition from active duty to civilian life, Lockheed Martin has committed more than $330,000 over the past five years to Homes For Our Troops, which builds and donates specially-adapted custom homes so Veterans and their families can rebuild their lives. Most of these post-Sept. 11 veterans have sustained injuries such as limb amputations, paralysis and traumatic brain injury.
"Despite life altering injuries, these veterans are able to transition to a home that is adapted to their needs with the support of Homes For Our Troops," said Dan Schultz, President, Sikorsky, a Lockheed Martin company. "This allows Veterans to focus on their recovery, their families and friends, and to continue to serve others."
Lockheed Martin presented the 2017 contribution, a $65,000 grant to Homes For Our Troops, at an event at the Association of the United States Army Annual Meeting & Exposition in Washington, D.C. Since 2004, Homes For Our Troops has built more than 240 specially adapted homes nationwide.
"Homes For Our Troops is grateful to have the generous support of corporations like Lockheed Martin to assist us in our critical mission of Building Homes and Rebuilding Lives," said General (Ret.) Richard Cody, Homes For Our Troops Chairman. "This donation from Lockheed Martin not only honors our Nation's veterans, but it will help restore freedom and independence to a great American Hero and his family."
The 2017 grant will help Homes For Our Troops build a home for Army Sgt. Patrick Wickens, whose leg was amputated following an ambush in Iraq. Sgt. Wickens, who was medically retired in 2006, loves to spend time with his wife and sons in Orlando, Florida. In his spare time, he volunteers with several other military nonprofits, building playgrounds and fixing bicycles.
"Thank you to Lockheed Martin for supporting Homes For Our Troops in their mission to build homes and rebuild lives," Wickens said. "My family and I are so appreciative of this gift and look forward to moving into our forever home."
Lockheed Martin a long-standing commitment to successful job transition for America's veterans, and supporting organizations that are dedicated to the military, veterans and their families.

About Homes For Our Troops
Homes For Our Troops (HFOT) is a privately funded 501(c) (3) nonprofit organization that builds and donates specially adapted custom homes nationwide for severely injured post – 9/11 Veterans, to enable them to rebuild their lives. Most of these Veterans have sustained injuries including multiple limb amputations, partial or full paralysis, and/or severe traumatic brain injury (TBI). These homes restore some of the freedom and independence our Veterans sacrificed while defending our country, and enable them to focus on their family, recovery, and rebuilding their lives. Since its inception in 2004, nearly 90 cents of every dollar has gone directly to our program services for Veterans. HFOT builds these homes where the Veteran chooses to live, and continues its relationship with the Veterans after home delivery to assist them with rebuilding their lives.
