Many people with special needs are capable of working and want to work. Yet it can be difficult for them to find productive work opportunities that help develop the skills needed to gain greater independence and to contribute to their communities.
When MedWish International launched its groundbreaking Building Careers Volunteer Program in 2009, it determined its path to success would come by engaging and employing northeast Ohio's special needs community in the organization's life-saving work. With partners like the Cleveland Clinic Center on Autism, Vocational Guidance Services, Cuyahoga Board of Developmental Disabilities and Mt. Sinai Health Care Foundation, Building Careers provides meaningful work to more than 100 special needs individuals.
"The Building Careers Volunteer Program provides a safe, welcoming environment where individuals with special needs can develop valuable social and vocational skills, as well as friendships," says Josh Kravitz, Executive Director of MedWish.
