Building and Construction Trades Department Convenes 68th Convention
Jobs and Unity are the Number One Issues as Delegates Elect Mark Ayers and Sean McGarvey to New Five-Year Terms
MINNEAPOLIS, Aug. 18 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- With a theme of "Pride, Performance and Professionalism for the 21st Century," the Building and Construction Trades Department convened its 68th Convention today in Minneapolis, MN with a sharp focus on creating new and sustained job opportunities for its signatory contractors and members who continue to endure a devastating and prolonged economic slump.
In his keynote address, President Mark H. Ayers outlined the formula for generating new opportunities for the unionized construction industry:
"The key to our success will be predicated upon a simple concept that is central to all human beings. And that is our continued embrace of the power of cooperation and partnership and the ability to establish and nurture relationships. And that includes the relationships among ourselves and our unions, as well as the critical partnerships that we have with industry groups; with construction owners and contractors; with community-based organizations; and with public officials."
Delegates at the convention unanimously elected Ayers and Secretary-Treasurer Sean McGarvey for new five-year terms.
The Building and Construction Trades Department is an alliance of 13 national and international unions that collectively represent over 2 million skilled craft workers in the United States and Canada
