BOCA RATON, Fla., Sept. 7 /PRNewswire/ -- Two decades ago, the concept of a No Kill Community was little more then a dream. Today, it is a reality in many cities and counties nationwide and the numbers continue to grow. The first step is a decision, a commitment to reject kill-oriented ways of doing business. In South Florida, more then 70,000 healthy homeless shelter pets are killed each year. Break it down. More then 1,300 killed each week in our own backyard. Some five million are killed in our nation's shelters every year.

Shelter killings are the leading cause of death for healthy dogs and cats in the U.S. and are entirely preventable. Communities across the country have been able to save the lives of all healthy and treatable dogs and cats that come in to their shelters every year. The very people responsible for accomplishing this goal are coming to South Florida to show us how to do it.
