The Hoffa-Hall slate won the 2011 IBT International Officer Election by a wide margin in November. The election results were certified on Jan. 6. Hoffa took office in March 1999 and won re-election in 2001 and 2006. Under his stewardship, the Teamsters Union has regained its place as the strongest labor union in North America.
"I look forward to working with Ferline and George," Hoffa said. "They are true champions for working families. We have accomplished so much as a union since 1999, but our work is not done. Workers are under attack in this country and unions are the only ones standing up for people with no voice. With the support of strong leaders like them and the entire General Executive Board, the Teamsters Union will continue to lead the fight to protect the middle class and the American dream."
Buie, in addition to her position as International Vice President At Large, is President of Local 922 in Washington, President of Joint Council 55 in Washington and an adviser to the Teamsters Human Rights Commission. She has been a Teamster since 1966 and a member of the General Executive Board since 2007.
"As your International Vice President on the Teamsters General Executive Board, I promise to fight for the rights of working families," Buie said. "Our great union is strong and will continue to prevail against the corporate forces that are trying to take away the rights of working men and women everywhere. We will win because we are united."
Tedeschi, who was sworn in as International Vice President At Large, also serves as President of the Graphic Communications Conference (GCC). He is past president of the Graphic Communications International Union, which merged with the Teamsters Union in 2005. He has been active in the union since 1959 and a member of the General Executive Board since 2007.
"It is an honor for me to serve a second term on the Teamsters General Executive Board," Tedeschi said. "Since our members voted to affiliate with the Teamsters in 2005, we have benefited from the strength of this great union. I am proud to represent Teamster members and in particular those in the Graphic Communications Conference."
Founded in 1903, the Teamsters Union represents 1.4 million hardworking men and women throughout the United States, Canada and Puerto Rico. Visit www.teamster.org for more information. Follow us on Twitter @TeamsterPower.
