Buick LaCrosse receives 21st Century upgrades
Electric motor added to increase fuel-efficiency
SAN ANTONIO, Nov. 29, 2013 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- Buick has begun to make some interesting strides for the current model-year with some of the innovations attached to the 2014 Buick LaCrosse, available at Cavender Buick GMC North. Several new safety systems have been added to some of the upper trim models. The new LaCrosse is also classified as a "mild hybrid" thanks to some 21st century technological improvements to the drivetrain. Additions like this to one of the more popular models may be a sign from the luxury automaker that they are trying to shift their image, one model at a time. What has not changed is the pillow-soft ride characteristics of the new Buick Lacrosse, making it one of the most enjoyable mid-size sedans to drive on the road today.

Base models of the 2014 Buick Lacrosse in San Antonio, TX are powered by a 2.4-liter, four-cylinder engine, however, Buick engineers have added an 11-kilowatt electric engine to supplement the power produced by the traditional gasoline engine. When the gasoline engine is working in concert with the powerful small electric motor, they can produce up to 182 horsepower. That mild hybrid technology combined with some subtle aerodynamic improvements has resulted in the 2.4-liter engine being able to record 25 miles per gallon in the city and 36 miles per gallon on the highway.
There is an engine upgrade available on the 2014 Buick Lacrosse. Those looking for more power and capability may lean toward the 3.6-liter, V-6 that can make 303 horsepower while still breaking the 25-mile per gallon barrier on the highway and recording a zero-to-60 time less than seven seconds.
Buick's safety engineers have added lane departure warning and forward collision warning systems to the vehicle. These sensors help alert a driver that he or she may be drifting out of the intended lane of travel, thus preventing an accident from happening in the first place. Forward collision warning has the same goal of preventing crashes before they happen. This system works by measuring the distance to obstacles ahead of the driver and making a warning alert while avoidance is still possible.
