BUFFALO, N.Y., Oct. 14, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Buffalo Computer Graphics' DisasterLAN (DLAN) incident management software has been sold to emergency management offices and private industries throughout the United States since 2002. In 2009, Niagara Region Ontario adopted DLAN in order to better facilitate emergency response and cross-border coordination with Erie County, NY.

Based upon this success and the company headquarters being located minutes away from the Ontario border, further expansion into Canada was the next logical step. The neighboring Halton Region Ontario was installed in 2013. BCG made several adaptations to their software to meet the needs of their two Canadian customers including adding options to regionalize address information, adding Canadian weather feeds, and integrating with Canada's Multi-Agency Situational Awareness System (MASAS).
With all the tools Canadian Emergency Mangers need already built into the system, the software was ready for a wider Canadian market; however, as a New York State small business BCG needed a strategic partnership to expedite the expansion. BCG turned to FutureShield, a Canadian software integration company that matches Canadian emergency management and security industry clients with software solutions tailored to their department and enterprise-wide operations. Cynthia Weeden, President of FutureShield, notes "For the past 9 years I have implemented a variety of EOC solutions for critical infrastructure and government customers. When introduced to DLAN by BCG, it was immediately obvious that they had leapfrogged other technology available on the market."
This partnership became fruitful immediately when FutureShield facilitated the University of British Columbia's (UBC) recent purchase of the DLAN system. BCG and FutureShield plan to continue their partnership, working to put great technology in the hands of Canadian public and private sector emergency managers and safety personnel.
DisasterLAN is a web-based incident management system designed for use in emergency operations centers and on mobile devices to manage both planned events and disasters using ICS and IMS standards.
FutureShield Inc. was founded in Toronto, Canada in 2005 on the premise that there is a strong need for domain expertise in integrating software solutions for security, emergency management, and critical infrastructure protection.
