CINCINNATI, March 5, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- The 14th annual BuckeyeThon, part of Children's Miracle Network Hospitals Dance Marathon series of events, raised $1,231,290 on February 6th through DonorDrive Peer-To-Peer Fundraising software, 61% more than the previous year.
After raising $767,000 with DonorDrive in 2014, BuckeyeThon set an ambitious goal of raising a million dollars in 2015. More than 5,000 student dancers registered for the 24-hour-long event. All money raised in this year's BuckeyeThon stays local to benefit the Hematology, Oncology and Bone Marrow Transplant Department at Nationwide Children's Hospital.
Zac Johnson, a Vice President at Children's Miracle Network Hospitals, notes the reasons for the growth: "BuckeyeThon has grown from a $30,000 a year event to raising $1.2 million annually over just the past 6 years. The reason behind this growth is simple: the student leaders. If you give the right leaders the right tools and encourage the proper business acumen, staggering results like this are the result. The Ohio State University has fostered a love of strategic planning and a focus on results-oriented outcomes in its students. Then all it takes is to let their passion and talent do the rest. After what we've seen from BuckeyeThon over the past few years, results like these are not surprising."
Blair Janis, Manager of Dance Marathon for Children's Miracle Network Hospitals, sees that DonorDrive Peer-To-Peer Fundraising software as empowered OSU students to do their best fundraising: "They are a truly incredible program that has really benefited from all features of DonorDrive. From engaging event participants to stewarding donors, it has certainly been a necessary tool in their success."
Todd Levy, CEO of Global Cloud and Originator of DonorDrive is an alumni of The Ohio State University: "It means a lot to me that DonorDrive can be a part of this amazing success for BuckeyeThon and Children's Miracle Network Hospitals. It really shows what OSU students are made of."
