The βETA™ Radiation Safety Programme, launching at the 2016 CIRSE (Cardiovascular and Interventional Radiological Society of Europe) International Conference in Barcelona, Spain is a new online resource featuring a range of educational tools and materials on radiation protection, health and safety. Uniquely, the resource provides users with proprietary audit tools to assess the risk of radiation exposure associated with selective internal radiation therapy (SIRT) with 90Y microspheres. It offers advice and guidance on reducing exposure levels for healthcare professionals and patients pre, during and post procedure. In addition, the βETA™ Radiation Safety Programme includes a collaborative feedback tool for users to add best practice experience, ensuring the resource is continually updated and expert knowledge is shared.
"With the rapid pace of development of new radiation treatments, there is a real need for education on best practice which is current to treatments being used today, such as SIRT," said Professor Jacob Kamen, Chief Radiation and Laser Safety Officer, Associate Professor of Radiology at Mount Sinai Medical Center, New York, US. "This need for continual education requires a resource that is easy to access at any time, from anywhere, and is updated regularly. The development of the βETA™ Radiation Safety Programme is informed by expert views from many of the leading global experts on radiation risk, and has been designed to ensure that this expert knowledge can be applied directly to current clinical practice."
Information regarding the βETA™ Radiation Safety Programme is available via the BTG booth at CIRSE 2016. Healthcare professionals can access the programme at http://www.btg-beta.com.
