BTC Inc Taps Former Business Insider VP and Head of Content Platforms at Dow Jones, Andrew Fleming, to Lead Media Division
Financial Media Leader Joins the Original Source of Information on Cryptocurrency and Blockchain Technology
NASHVILLE, Tenn., Nov. 6, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- BTC Inc, an ecosystem of companies at the forefront of decentralization, today announced Andrew Fleming as general manager of its media division, BTC Media.
BTC Media delivers information to millions about blockchain technology and cryptocurrency through properties like Bitcoin Magazine, the original source of news and information for Bitcoin that was co-founded by Vitalik Buterin and Mihai Alisie in 2012, the Distributed publication and events series, the Let's Talk Bitcoin podcast network and more. As its new head, Fleming brings over a decade of expertise in scaling renowned media brands to the burgeoning decentralization industry. He is perhaps best known for building Business Insider's industry-leading product strategies and guiding Dow Jones' content platforms, including The Wall Street Journal and MarketWatch.
"I've had the chance to grow successful media properties from the ground up and to offer leadership in some of the world's oldest and most reputable publications," Fleming said. "At BTC Inc, this is an opportunity to serve a new audience in one of the world's most exciting and limitless industries."
Fleming graduated from Columbia University with a master's degree in astrophysics, before pivoting to the media space as a producer for Condé Nast. He left Condé Nast to help start Business Insider in 2009 as one of its first employees, growing it into one of the most popular and groundbreaking publications in the digital media era as the product manager and vice president of product. Most recently, Fleming served as the head of content platforms at Dow Jones, overseeing media strategy for The Wall Street Journal, MarketWatch, Barron's and Moneyish.
In his role as BTC Media's general manager, Fleming will oversee all strategy and product development for the different media platforms under the BTC Inc umbrella.
"Hiring Andrew puts our media business in a position to better serve the growing audiences in the blockchain and crypto space, to deliver more value to our advertisers and to expand the mindshare of distributed technologies," said David Bailey, CEO of BTC Inc. "He's been a pioneer in the traditional media landscape, and with our team and audience he's poised to take our media business to the next level."
Fleming's hiring comes eight months after BTC Inc hired Jarrod Dicker, the former vice president of innovation at The Washington Post, as the CEO of Po.et, a blockchain-based project focused on recapturing value for content creators. Both additions follow a larger trend of institutional heads leaving their positions at established companies to bring their expertise to the crypto space.
