BT "Makes Strides" Across the U.S. for the American Cancer Society
IRVING, Texas, Sept. 30, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- BT joins the battle against breast cancer in the U.S. by supporting the 2011 American Cancer Society Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk. During the month of October, 13 teams of BT employees in Dallas, Washington, DC, New York, Boston and other select cities across the nation will participate in non-competitive three-to-five mile walks. These events help celebrate survivors, increase awareness to help people get and stay well, and raise money for research to find cures for cancer.
"This is a great opportunity for BT to team with local communities across the country and get out on the streets in support of this important need," said Kim McMann, president, BT U.S. & Canada. "One of our strategic priorities is to be a responsible and sustainable business leader. We aim to be a force for good in the way we operate our business and support our customers' sustainability in the U.S. and in all our operations around the world."
A registered partner of Making Strides, BT is making an initial donation of $5,000 and will be matching donations raised by employees up to an additional $10,000. BT's commitment to the American Cancer Society complements the company's partnership with Cancer Research (CRUK) in the U.K.
In addition to supporting Making Strides, BT US and Canada employees support other sustainability initiatives including disaster response through our 'Ready When the Time Comes' teams with the American Red Cross. The company also partners with One Economy to fund a digital inclusion program which provides technology training to youths along with tools for them to teach older family members how to use the internet. In addition, BT's employee charity match and volunteering programs help our people support their own causes with company backing.
BT has been in the U.S. for almost 25 years, supporting national and multinational companies with ICT services that improve their agility, networking security, and operational efficiency. Many of the customers BT serves share our strong commitment to sustainability.
For more than a decade, BT has consistently achieved high performance ratings in the Dow Jones Sustainability World Index. Named the top company in the fixed telecommunications sector each year from 2001 to 2008, BT was a Gold Class recipient in 2009, 2010 and 2011.
