INDIANAPOLIS, July 18, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Nationally recognized architecture and engineering firm, BSA LifeStructures (BSA) has hired Theresa (Teri) L. Joy, BSN, CEN, TCRN, RN, as senior healthcare operations planner. Teri will provide her combined expertise in clinical and hospital operations to the firm's healthcare market.
Operational planners provide metrics and benchmarks to help hospitals realize powerful improvements in HCAHPS (Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems) scores and key evidence-based outcomes. Teri will work side-by-side with healthcare facilities to improve their processes, eliminate unnecessary redundancies, focus on value-added steps, and streamline their workflows.
"Teri's extensive clinical background will provide state-of-the-art operational insight and guidance to healthcare projects," said Josh Halon, BSA's director of healthcare planning. "When designing a new space or even a renovation, it's imperative first to understand your current patient and staff processes. Teri's real-world nursing experience will help guide the design teams to think about process improvement initiatives by updating and developing work and patient flow processes integral to the healing process."
Teri is a Registered Nurse in Indiana with over 25 years of experience and Certified Emergency Nurse (CEN) and Trauma Certified Registered Nurse (TCRN) certifications. Teri started her professional career as a clinical staff nurse in the orthopedic/neurosurgical unit and cardiac surgery recovery unit at Union Hospital in Terre Haute. From there she moved to Eskenazi Health as a staff nurse II and worked in the Emergency Room/Level I Trauma Center, eventually becoming the director of trauma services, orthopedic services, perioperative services, and clinical education. Teri has been very active in the medical community. She has given many presentations and has published articles in prominent medical journals such as the Journal of Trauma Nursing and the Journal of Nursing Administration.
"Transitioning to an operational planner, with years of experience as a registered nurse, I am excited to help healthcare teams develop new workflows and processes that improve efficiency, safety, utilize best practices, and focus on patient- and family-centered care," said Joy. "Focusing on these tasks give clinicians more time to focus on patient care needs and do the work they were meant to do."
