Bruce Carlile and John Baker of Bureau Veritas to Speak on Globally Harmonized System Requirements at the Crude Oil Quality Association Meeting
HOUSTON, Feb. 13, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Inspectorate, part of Bureau Veritas' Commodities Division, announced today Bruce Carlile, business development representative for Crude Oil and Shale Operations and John Baker, senior project manager, Health, Safety & Environmental Services will present on the new Globally Harmonized System (GHS) requirements to the Crude Oil Quality Association's general meeting on Thursday, Feb. 19 in Houston, TX at the Marriott West Loop.
Developed by Occupational Safety and Health Administration's (OSHA), the GHS classifies all substances and mixtures based on their health, physical and environmental hazards. The new system requires chemical manufacturers and importers to have products labelled with a signal word, pictogram, hazard statement and precautionary statement for each hazard class and category.
Bureau Veritas is working with several customers to provide independent third-party consulting services to help them achieve and demonstrate compliance with GHS requirements to further reduce the occurrence of accidents and injuries. The deadline for GHS compliance is Jun. 1, 2015 and chemical manufacturers, importers, distributors and employers should move proactively and quickly in planning for compliance assistance.
"The June 1st deadline for Globally Harmonized System compliance is quickly approaching so it is important for the chemical manufacturing industry to learn about how this new standard will impact them, as well as their business," said Baker. "The system provides a new, clearly defined mandate on how to effectively disclose information about handling hazardous materials and ensure all mandatory safety rules and regulations are being enforced."
