Browne began their relationship with OHL in 2004 after entering the U.S. market through a 2003 acquisition. Soon after this acquisition they began tackling the challenge of consolidating and centralizing their distribution and supply chain operations. Browne looked to OHL because of their reputation as a strong 3PL partner with a proven track record in cost savings and technological innovation - a company who would be there for long haul.
"When you're in business and you give your entire distribution component to an outside party it's a bit of a scary thing," says Brian Wood, Browne & Co. Chief Operating Officer of Food Services. "The decision to hand over our supply chain operations to OHL was probably the most important and riskiest decision I made in my 21 years here at Browne. I'm very happy we made the right decision because we were trying to resurrect a very sick company that we had just purchased. Being able to expand today with OHL and give them our transportation and freight management business is a place of comfort because we are now more than confident in their ability to deliver. We've grown together and it's really augmenting our business just the way they said it would in the beginning."
The long haul with OHL led to the tremendous growth Browne realized over the course of their 9 year relationship. This year OHL took on the new responsibility of outfitting Browne with a web-based Transportation Management System (TMS). This technology will optimize Browne's KPI and ROI visibility and automate their shipment planning and carrier management functions. Having OHL as their 3PL partner for both warehousing and transportation will give Browne the end-to-end supply chain visibility they need to achieve further process improvement efficiencies and cost savings that will lead to increased growth, allowing Browne to focus on their core business – product design and manufacturing.
"When we began our partnership with Browne 9 years ago, it was just the kind of partnership we were looking for," says Fred Loeffel, OHL Executive President of Sales & Marketing. We knew we could deliver just the right solution to not only fit their needs but also foster growth. At the time, as a company we were laying the foundation internally for enhanced growth ahead and we wanted to make sure that we were strategically taking on partnerships that could benefit from that growth. Where we are today with Browne is in direct correlation to that vision of growth we had from the start."
