Armed with brooms, trowels and paint, 50 employees spent the afternoon beautifying the Clara House, a transitional home for families in Hayes Valley, and helping out at the Compass Children's Center, a child development and education center in the Tenderloin neighborhood.
The facilities are run by Compass Family Services, which supports 3,000 homeless and low-income children and adults in San Francisco each year. Through their programs, Compass provides shelter, job training and child care, among other social services.
"This has been a very tough time for many families in San Francisco, which is why we're pleased to be able to support an organization like Compass that provides a safety net for those in need," said Richard Fish, CEO of Brown & Toland. "It's my hope that our work today, along with the assistance we have provided in the past, will help more San Francisco families as they get back on their feet."
Brown & Toland Physicians also supports Compass families through the annual Adopt-a-Family holiday program. For the last two years, Brown & Toland employees have donated hundreds of gifts for children who receive services through Compass, as well as vital necessities such as clothing and toiletries.
"Compass is extremely grateful for Brown & Toland's support," said Jane Schisgal, program director for Compass' Clara House. "For them to take the time to paint and clean this house for the families that live here, it's just great."
