Brown & Toland Honors Soledad Senga with the American Heart Association's Lifestyle Change Award
Sponsors annual Heart Walk for ninth consecutive year
SAN FRANCISCO, Sept. 22, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Brown & Toland Physicians, a leading network of independent doctors, honored Soledad Senga on Friday with the Lifestyle Change Award at the annual American Heart Association (AHA) San Francisco Heart Walk kick-off at Justin Herman Plaza.
About 6,000 people gathered at the site, including almost 100 Brown & Toland employees. Brown & Toland was a corporate sponsor of the Heart Walk for the ninth consecutive year, and raised more than $11,000 in employee donations for the association. Judges recognized Senga with the award for her positive outlook, and perseverance in overcoming adversity.
A former buyer for a major San Francisco dress designer, Senga's life changed dramatically when she was diagnosed with a heart condition at 48 years old, and was scheduled for pacemaker surgery within weeks of the diagnosis. Her lack of sleep, unhealthy diet and sedentary behavior caught up with her, and she was forced to change to a healthier lifestyle.
Senga joined the AHA Start Training team, an AHA running group in February 2014 and went on to complete several 10K races.
"We are proud to honor Soledad as an example of someone who has changed the quality of her life through diet and exercise," said Brown & Toland Chief Medical Officer Andrew Snyder, M.D. "Soledad's story is truly inspirational and challenges us all to live healthier lives."
