MALVERN, Australia, Jan. 7, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Continental Who's Who/- Brother Paul Smith is recognized by Continental Who's Who as a Pinnacle Professional in the field of Non- Profit Organizations as a result of his role as Executive Chairperson with Lasallian Foundation Australia.
The Lasallian Foundation was established in 2004 by the De La Salle Brothers of Australia, New Zealand and Papua New Guinea. The Foundation is a small, non denominational organization supporting development projects in the Asia Pacific region and more recently in South Sudan. Over many years, the De La Salle Brothers and committed lay partners have funded and established innovative projects across Australia, New Zealand, Pakistan, Papua New Guinea, Sri Lanka, India, Myanmar, Thailand, Cambodia and Southern Sudan.
Brother Paul was the CEO of the Lasallian Foundation since its inception in 2004, before recently taking the position of Executive Chairperson. He began his work with the De La Salle Brothers, a religious congregation of men within the Catholic Church, in 1969. In 1972, he moved to St. Bedes Mentone and served in various roles, including Boarding Master, Principal of Senior School, Deputy Headmaster and Headmaster. Between 1982 and 1993, he worked as the Director of Boys Town Beaudesert, a residential facility referred through the Queensland courts which housed 100 boys between the ages of 12 and 16.
With over forty years of experience in non-profit management, Brother Paul has vast knowledge in non-profit management and administration, education, youth development, teacher training, water sanitation, hygiene techniques, conducting strategic planning workshops, and networking. Brother Paul also works with program design, strategic planning for future projects, monitoring and evaluating current projects, and human resources. Additionally, he established Kids Helpline, Australia's largest youth service, in 1991. Kids Helpline operates as a 24-hour, free and confidential telephone counseling service available to children between 5 and 18 years of age. He also established Parentline, a Queensland phone counseling service for parents experiencing problems. That same year, he co-founded Boystown Link Up. Advocating for the rights of children, especially young offenders, he developed a multi-faceted response to the problems facing youth aged 17-25.
Due to his dedication to the welfare of children and professional successes, Brother Paul has been awarded with many prestigious honors and awards. He is the recipient of the Federal Human Rights Medal for Founding Kids Helpline, the PACT Award for his Commitment to Fighting Child Abuse, the Australian Humanitarian Award for his Service to the Health of Young People, Father of the Year for Queensland, and was also named Queenslander of the Year three separate times. He is a member of both the Order of Australia and the Australian Council for International Development.
Brother Paul earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Education from Macquarie University, along with a Diploma of Education from Armidale University.
